9 Things Locals Miss Most When They Leave Cascais
You only realise how good Cascais is when you leave.
Sure, people talk about the Beaches, the weather and the Golf.
But ask a local what they miss most after moving away, and you’ll get a very different list.
Here are a few things that instantly bring us back home.

🌭 Hot Dogs at Boca do Inferno

Not fancy. Not Michelin-starred.
Just a hot dog by the ocean at Boca do Inferno.
Somehow it tastes better with salty air and a sunset in front of you.
If you’ve never tried them, here’s why so many locals keep coming back: here

🌊 Late Afternoons at Guincho

A few beach rackets, a walk on the sand, or simply watching the waves drinking a beer.
One of our favourite sunset spots is right here

I wrote “watching the waves” because I’m probably one of the very few people in Cascais who still can’t Surf 🏄‍♂️.  Fortunately, if you’re more talented than me, there are plenty of Surf Schools in Cascais: here

And if Guincho is too windy (which, let’s be honest, happens often), locals know the backup plan:
Praia Grande (20 Kms away) and a drink at Bar do Fundo.

⛰️ A Bike Ride in Sintra

One of the greatest luxuries of living in Cascais is having Sintra on your doorstep.
And don’t worry if you’re not a cycling machine. E-bikes exist for a reason.

🏃 The Cascais–Estoril Promenade

Running. Walking. Thinking.
The promenade is where locals clear their heads, catch up with friends or simply enjoy the ocean.
Few places in Europe offer such a beautiful route right by the sea.
Our favourite route? You can find it here

a good place to eat or Drink is Emma Bar da Praia

🍣 Dinner at Rua Amarela Without a Reservation

Most visitors plan everything.
Locals take their chances.
A spontaneous dinner at Rua Amarela (Yellow Street – Restaurant District) wandering from restaurant to restaurant, is part of the fun.
Discover Cascais’ most famous restaurant street!
And if you’re lucky, you might grab a table at Izakaya, one of the town’s favourite Japanese restaurants

Football and Beers at John Bull

The match almost doesn’t matter.
It’s the atmosphere, the banter and that feeling of watching football surrounded by familiar faces 🍺
For many locals, John Bull is the go-to place.

🍺 A Beer with Friends at The The

Every town has that one place where one beer somehow becomes two.
For many locals, that’s The The.

Nothing fancy. Just familiar faces, good conversations with a view

🍷 Long Friday Lunches

At Gabbro.
At Cascais Marina.

Anywhere with good food, good company and absolutely no rush.
Because deep down, nobody really works on Friday afternoons… right?

And the marina itself remains one of Cascais’ best places to spend an afternoon:
